As well as its reputation for wines of international renown. Stellenbosch is also known as the home of Springbok rugby. There have been more Springbok caps earned by Stellenbosch University graduates than any other rugby club in the Republic of South Africa. Many ex Springboks turn their hand to winemaking when they have completed their careers on the turf. Others are born into the wine making families of the Western Cape.
This tour visits Springbok relate wineries in the Paarl and Stellenbosch regions. Unlike some of the players, the area is known for its aesthetic beauty and the finesse of its wines. The wineries have been selected to demonstrate the different types of terroir and production methodologies which vary from "old world to new" world techniques.
There may be opportunity to meet with some of the owners and wine makers themselves who are always happy to share their expertise (wine making that is!) with visitors or discuss old "war" stories.
At each of the wineries, in addition to enjoying the experience, you are invited to participate in a tasting of their wines. Lunch will be taken at one of the wineries.
